 Wandering Eye
« Thread Started on Jan 7, 2007, 5:58am »

Black walked through the large park, uninterestedly of the scenery. The forest was tamer then that of outside the walls, but it was generally the same as any other forest he had wandered through; dark, asides from a few candle lit street lamps, lush, apart from the areas cut back for pathways, and inhabited by things he couldn't see.

He walked with his hands tucked away in pockets and his head low, although his blue eyes swept about alertly, his human senses catching anything within their ability.

Squiz puffed up the brilliant blue feathers of his neatly folded wings. His blue eyes followed a figure in the forest: a human, or so he had heard they were. The word didn't mean much to him, but he wasn't interested in the 'human' at all. Not one bit; they were rather awkward looking, not at all really interesting to him. Oh, but the things they carried!

Squiz gently hopped onto a branch, following the human from the distance of the trees. His eyes transfixed on the tuffed tops of sticks that jutted out invitingly from his back. Unexpectedly, he let out a squak, tilting his head slightly before diving from the tree and, in one quick movement, taking a hold of one of the sticks in his beak.

He landed with a thud on the ground, not too far from the human, and dropped the stick. He tilted his head at it, peering with one eye at the odd looking contraption.

Black jumped with a start as a screech filled the air suddenly. It was almost bird like in sound, but there was also something dragon like about it. With a swift movement of feather and scale an odd looking creautre landed with a thud on the ground in front of him.

For a moment all he saw was blue feathers, and then the gleam of ruby scales caught his eye. He noticed the dragon peering down curiously at an arrow, and with a start he realised that it was his arrow! The creature seemed not bother by a human presence, perhaps it was someone's pet?

Black slowly took a step towards the young dragon, crouching down as he got closer.

Deftly, Squiz rose his head, one bird like blue eye focusing on the human creature that now crouched, closer to him then he remembered. 'What is this?' Squiz demanded, he knew the human wouldn't understand him. He let out a small clicking nose, scooping up the stick in his beak. He flicked his head, dropping the stick in the process.

It was awkward for him to hold, and it smelt funny, kinda like the human smelt. He held his wings out and flapped them slightly, evening the feathers out so he could close them comfortably. He arched the crest of feathers upon his head up, and flicked his feathery tail out from beneath him; it was often his procedure after he had landed, as he was still getting that part of flying down.

He stood full height on his talons, straightening himself out and folding his wings to his back. The human seemed interested in him, and he cocked his head to the side in wonder. He looked down at the pointed stick and then back at the human, and squawked in demand, wanting to know what they called it.

Black, crouching, was just bigger than the small dragon. There seemed to be an innocence about the creature, a youngness. It wasn't everyday that a dragon landed in front of him and made a toy of his weapons. He smiled inwards as the creature let out a series of loud and abrasive squakes.

The brightly clad dragon flicked his arrow, almost in annoyance. Black came a bit closer to the little dragon, watching with intense curiosity as he ruffled his feathers in a bird like manner. It surprised him that the creature could even manage to fly, but far be it for him to question the ways of the world.

The animals crystal eyes focused on him, and the dragon made a gesture towards the arrow questioningly. He wanted to know what it was. Black couldn't help the small smile sneaking across his lips. It would be pointless to tell the creature what it was, but that was obviously what he wanted. 'It's an arrow little one' Black assured the creature reaching down slowly to retrieve the arrow from the ground, holding it up for the dragon.

Squiz titled his head at the human. He had never quite heard a language such as the humans used; he had tried to talk to one once, it hadn't ended bad on his part, but the human lost a very shiny looking disk. He grinned in his way - it was easy enough to do but not easy to tell. He still kept the coin, he had hidden it in a very special location, along with all his other treasures. He tried not to hide all his valuables in the one place, but had them scattered around.

Squiz gave the human a one eyed glare in response to the gibberish that came from its mouth. Didn't he know that Squiz couldn't understand? Squiz couldn't even talk back, not in any language the human would be able to perceive. Squiz wasn't very old at all, in fact he was very young, and he knew these things. This human looked old enough to know them.

Squiz cocked his head the other way, peering at the being with his other eye. This human was going the right way to loosing his arrow - not that that bothered Squiz in the slightest.

'Alright little guy' Black said, reaching for the arrow. He had wasted enough time entertaining the little dragon and it wasn't leading anywhere anytime soon, the oddly mixed bundle of feather and scale was getting annoyed at him and he would rather not have a dragon, even a little one, annoyed at him.

Black slowly, and carefully grabbed the end of his arrow, not wishing to startle the young dragon. It would be better for him if he wasn't cheated out of any of his arrows, the kind he fancied weren't easy to find. It was better to lose them in defense or hunting. Once he held the arrow, he straightened, bringing the weapon with him as he did and backing off slightly.

Black attempted a smile at the creature, replacing the arrow in it's quiver and turning to leave.
'I'll see you around little one' he said over his shoulder, more out of courtesy than anything.

Squiz glared at the human as he took the stick away slowly. Of course, he didn't stop the being. It was best to let them think they had their own way. He didn't need to have the funny device in front of him to take it. And he certainly didn't need the human to give it to him.

He watched silently as the human replaced the stick with the others on his back and walked off, talking more gibberish at him. The human clearly knew Squiz couldn't understand, but he obviously didn't know the language was annoying. More annoying because the being could be calling him names. Squiz puffed his feathers indignantly at the idea. He definitely didn't like the idea of being called names, especially one's he couldn't understand.

He launched himself into the air flapping his feathered wings with a squawk. He dove toward the human, and snatched the arrow with his bird like feet instead. It was much too difficult to carry in his beak. He squawked angrily back in the humans direction as he landed in a tree on one of the high branches. The human wouldn't be able to reach his precious stick now. Squiz opened his beak in a mocking grin, arching his feathered crest and cocking his head.
